Yonge Street Half-Yearly Meeting

Half-Yearly Meetings are regional bodies of Canadian Quakers, which bring together Friends from a wider area in a bond of fellowship for inspiration, counsel, and recreation. These gatherings also provide an opportunity for united consideration of matters that concern the Society. Yonge Street Half-Yearly Meeting unites Friends from the Hamilton, Toronto, and Yonge Street (Newmarket) Monthly Meetings, Worship Groups under their care, and individual Friends.

Yonge Street Half-Yearly Meeting gathers twice a year, in spring and autumn. These sessions combine worship, a short program, and a business meeting. Each Meeting appoints a delegate to speak on its behalf at the business session and to report back.

Constituent Meetings take turns being responsible for the gathering’s program which also usually includes children’s activities. Half-Yearly Meeting Liaison Committee, which is comprised of members from each of the Monthly Meetings, offers consultation and input to help the host meeting develop the program for the upcoming session.

Yonge Street Half-Yearly Meeting also includes a Continuing Meeting of Ministry & Counsel, with one member appointed by each Monthly Meeting. Yonge Street Half-Yearly Meeting of Ministry & Counsel has responsibility for the pastoral care of area members.
