White Privilege Conference Global – Toronto (May 9-12, 2018)

“A challenging, collaborative and comprehensive experience to empower individuals to work for equity and justice.”

The 18th year of White Privilege Conference (WPC) includes the first event outside of the United States, the White Privilege Conference Global event (WPC Global) at Ryerson University in Toronto, Ontario.

WPC Global – Toronto

Though Canada is praised around the world for its multiculturalism, there are still hurdles that exist nationwide. Ryerson University’s Office of the Vice-President, Equity and Community Inclusion will be hosting “The White Privilege Conference Global – Toronto” to explore Canadians’ challenges with privilege and oppression.

WPC is an annual symposium in the United States; this is the first time the conference will take place in Toronto. The event will be a great opportunity to engage openly in honest, critical, solutions-based discussions that address obstacles as they relate to issues that focus on and go beyond race. WPC Global – Toronto aims to enhance individual understanding of white privilege, as well as to address the dominant narratives that operate throughout our institutions and across society.

“Privilege is often times difficult to see for those people who were born with access to power and the resources that go with that power.”

“Through workshops and panel discussions, we will engage in transformative conversations about privilege and its impacts with an aim of building a more inclusive world.”

The WPC Experience:

  • Gathers a consummate network of both national and regional leaders, learners and practitioners to work and learn from each other.
  • Provides opportunities for participants to discuss how white privilege, white supremacy, and oppression affects daily life, while giving strategies for addressing issues of privilege and oppression and advancing social and economic justice.
  • Engages in synergistic collaboration to produce both paradigm shifts and personal action.
  • WPC is a conference that examines challenging concepts of privilege and oppression and offers solutions and team building strategies to work toward a more equitable world.
  • It is not a conference designed to attack, degrade or beat up on white people.
  • WPC is committed to a philosophy of “understanding, respecting and connecting.”
  • It is not a conference designed to rally white supremacist groups.

“WPC is open to everyone and invites diverse perspectives to provide a comprehensive look at issues of privilege including: race, gender, sexuality, class, disability, etc. — the ways we all experience some form of privilege, and how we’re all affected by that privilege.”

WPC attracts students, professionals, activists, parents, and community leaders/members from diverse perspectives. WPC welcomes people with varying levels of experience addressing issues of diversity, cultural competency, and inclusion.
