Canadian Young Friends Yearly Meeting

Young Friends Circle

Canadian Young Friends Yearly Meeting is a community of Friends (Quakers) aged 13 to 35 in Canada. Between 2016 and 2018 Canadian Young Friends Yearly Meeting took a hiatus. During this time, two gatherings of Canadian Young Friends were held at Camp NeeKauNis (a Quaker summer camp near Waubaushene, Ontario). Out of these gatherings, Canadian Young Friends were led to end the hiatus and breath new life into Canadian Young Friends Yearly Meeting. This is an exciting time of re-imagining what Canadian Young Friends Yearly Meeting is and how it can best serve the needs of the community today.

Canadian Young Friends Yearly Meeting and Canadian Yearly Meeting

We are two yearly meetings with an overlapping and interconnected history. Canadian Young Friends Yearly Meeting is most simply, the youth branch of Religious Society in Friends in Canada; however, Canadian Young Friends Yearly Meeting operates semi-autonomously from Canadian Yearly Meeting.

Although at first glance, Canadian Young Friends Yearly Meeting might look like a junior version of Canadian Yearly Meeting, CYFYM predates CYM. This creates an unusual dynamic between the two Yearly Meetings.

For more information about the present direction of Canadian Young Friends Yearly Meeting, check out the report from our last Yearly Meeting session.

Who are the CYFYM Representatives?

The Representatives are discerned at Yearly Meeting Sessions and will serve for as long as they are asked, or as they are able. They are not Meeting Clerks. Currently we have had a team of 3 Reps, but the number is not limited.

How do the Representatives serve Canadian Young Friends Yearly Meeting?

The CYFYM Reps serve as liasons with the greater CYM body, as well as advocates for the interests of Young Friends. They deal with administration for CYFYM events, and sit in on CYM Business Meetings, as well as Representative Meetings. Representatives may also correspond with outside bodies such as FGC, Woodbrooke, Pendle Hill, etc. Representatives also maintain official mailing lists, newsletter, email, website, minute book, and facebook groups.
