Friends, we will gather in Camrose at the Augustana Campus of the University of Alberta, starting this Friday, Aug 4, with a Pre-YM Retreat led by Beverly Shepard. Yearly Meeting session will follow with a community celebration on Saturday; the Sunderland P. Gardner Lecture given by Maggie Knight on Sunday evening and a week filled with activity, sharing, time for quiet reflection and spiritual growth and learning. Every year we come together as a family, it’s an event that nourishes body and soul.

The Canadian Yearly Meeting Education & Outreach Committee would like to announce its upcoming online workshop “Introduction to Quakers and Friends’ Ways”. The course will be facilitated by Eric Kristensen (Vancouver Monthly Meeting).
The Introduction to Quakers and Friends’ Ways will address the early history of Friends, the history of Friends in Canada, the experiential nature of Quaker faith, the role of the Meeting in Quaker life, Quaker testimonies and their origin, and how our Quaker community nurtures how we live, work, worship, and transact business.

The Education & Outreach Committee of CYM (E&O) offered a workshop by Arthur Larrabee on clerking Quaker meetings for worship for business.
Arthur Larrabee is a life long Friend and member of Central Philadelphia Monthly Meeting, of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting. He has led many workshops on clerking. He has served as clerk of his monthly meeting and has served 7 years as General Secretary of PHLYM. He comes with enthusiasm, experience, wit and humour to the task of providing servant leadership for Friends.
The course was titled: “Serving the Community with Joy and Confidence.” and was well-attended.
As part of the global effort to mobilize action on climate changed, the World Council of Churches and Religions for Peace is organizing an Interfaith Summit on Climate change, to be held in New York, 21-22 September 2014. This is just ahead of the United Nations Climate Summit on 23 September in New York. The program of the Interfaith Summit will be open to the public. Registration information is at Inter Faith Summit on Climate Change. Faith leaders will contribute to creating a coordinated long term interfaith mobilization for climate justice.
